Testing 1...2..3...
Is this thing on?

Well today is my first day at 3D Realms. It was a tough decision for me to leave Ritual Entertainment, and I have had a great 3 years working there.

I'm really looking forward to get started on the Duke 4 multiplayer code, but it looks like I'll have to study this Unreal code a bit before I jump in. It's kind of a shock to be working with Quake tech for 3 years, and then jump over and work on Unreal. Well at least I get to see how both systems really work.

A week or so ago I had the chance to see one of the finest movies ever made. If you haven't seen "Night of the Lepus" I highly recommend it- especially to fans of Raiders of the Lost Ark or the Matrix. It's hard to find (it's old) but well worth it.

I'll never look at rabbits the same way again.

If we are too young our judgement is impaired; just as it is if we are too old.

Thinking too little about things or thinking too much both make us obstinate and fanatical.
If we look at our work immediately after completing it, we are still too involved; if too long afterwards, we cannot pick up the thread again.
It is like looking at pictures which are too near of too far away. There is just one indivible point which is the right place.
Others are too near, too high, or too low. In painting the rules of perspective decide it, but how will it be decided when it comes to truth and morality?

Ya know, in my spare time I really had enjoyed playing Unreal Tournament online at night until the recent three months where I've played very little. When I finally started playing again (just recently) - I never realized how many morons there really are out there playing just to ruin others fun.

Take for example, there's this so-called UT clan called 187 - they're probably the biggest group of self-absorbed, arrogant bundle of kids you'll ever meet. And we shouldn't discuss their tactics either. Apparently they feel the need to consistently break gameplay on several maps that run on the server's normal rotation. (This whole gameplay breakage on regular maps is occurring more frequently in the UT community - and it's very frustrating)

Guys like this just manage to hop on to a server, hoard on one team and generally just end up ruining the fun for everyone. And then they make sure and show their obviously high intelligence level via poor insults and other types of grade school type verbiage.

I feel sorry for anyone that ends up having to match with them - if you feel cheated there's a good reason for it. :)

Okay, that last message was a fluke. 'Got lost somewhere, I guess. Well, the long and short of it is...I'm engaged! Hardly anyone will remember, but when I first started updading my plan file, I was just getting to know this cool art school girl named Wendy. Lots of stuff has happened since then obviously :) She's found a great graphic design job in Dallas, but we're still living apart and plan on getting married in March of 2001.

Glee!

IMHO when you release an image showing off an otherwise awesome character, in should NOT be in it's default T-stance. Come on, take a minute and put 'em in a cool pose.

I was required to say something in my plan file, so I just repeated what I was saying to Matt.

Tech Letter:

A lot of people ask me how to get dos games installed in to
windows 95 / 98. Well there are a few ways to do it. Although all are different.

The easy way:
Click on Start - Programs - MSDOS prompt.

Although this is the easy way, none of Apogee/3D Realms games are
supported via this method, and a lot of times the game locks up or just will not run.

Next way:

Click on START - Shutdown - Restart in MSDOS mode.

Although this is my preferred method of doing dos games, a lot of computer manufactures do not install any dos drivers into your computer so when you do this you do not have Sound, CDROM, or Mouse support. You only have what is installed on your main hard drive. So for the Older games (Keen 1-3, Cosmo, ect.) this is a good way of doing it, although for newer (Duke 3D, Shadow, TV) Dos games this will not work.

The Best Way:

Create a short cut that restarts your computer into DOS and loads all the drivers that you need.

This way is what the rest of my .plan will be on.
