Beginner Tutorial: Layout of the Editor

A. The Layout

This tutorial's objective is to introduce you to the editor.  Open up UnrealED and you will have the editor ready with no level opened.

UnrealED Layout

On the left side of the screen are the tools.   These icons (most of them functional) are the tools used to construct and edit your level's physical properties.  Tools are covered specifically in a later section of this tutorial, as well as in the UnrealED Tools page on this site.

In the middle of the screen are four split view windows of the level that is being edited.  You can see in the picture above what each particular window is by default, but you can change the views of each window with the icon/toolbar at the top left corner of each.  In 3D editing you need more than one view of what you are editing because things exist in three dimensions now as opposed to editors like BUILD which only dealt with 2D layouts of things.  I will go into more detail about editing in three dimensions in the next tutorial, The 3D Concept.

On the right side of the screen is the browser.   The browser is where you can browse through textures, music, sound, and classes.   The next section of this tutorial covers just that...
