In 3D, editing
is complex. It takes a long time. You cannot simply just throw stuff together, you have to
place things smartly, realisticly, and avoid errors. And you have to do it in three
dimensions. When you edit in 3D, you have to know where things are in all three
dimensions: lengthwise, heightwise, and depthwise. In UnrealED you start off with four
views. These four views are nessecary for editing because you cannot tell more than two
dimensions in a 2D view. If you are viewing something from the front, you cannot see the
depth, if you are viewing from the top, you cannot see the height.
As game technology gets better, the worlds we
create become more complex. When 3-Dimensional gaming was created, the worlds got a lot
more complex. You have to worry about every place the player is able to explore, and you
want to make it as realistic, interactive, and enjoyable as possible.
All of this is really a no-brainer. As games
progress, they get more complicated. And because of that, editing becomes a much more
detailed process and takes more work and effort from the creator. In the next sections I
will explain what the use of all of the windows and views in UnrealED are for, and how to
convert from 2D to 3D editing. The next section covers UnrealED's use of multiple views... |
