Tutorial: Advanced Terrain I

C. Aligning Textures

Here is where our auxiliary cube is useful. Because Unreal texture alignment (for the most part) sucks like a 747 engine nacell during takeoff, we must go through a process to line up the 4 "wall" lofts.  To do this we will make use of the rotation tool (I use the right click of the move tool) and the Floor/Cieling Alignment option.

The first step is to move the 4 wall lofts into the auxiliary cube and rotate them so that they all have their bases against the floor. Keep in mind we will move them back later.  Rebuild the geometry.

(Don't Worry that the brushes are stretched.  They'll be OK when we move them back in a second)

Next, Select each brush individually and hit 'align floor/cieling.' Do this for all 4 brushes.

Next, rotate and move each back to its original location in the original cube and rebuild.

Note from Nuke: I think hes turning the wall brushes on their "backs" so they align as floor/cieling, then putting them back up after they align

Lastly, select the cieling brush (be it add or subtract) and align as floor/cieling.  Do this to the floor loft aswell.  Throw in lights if it pleases you.

Bow before Colin!

And now you should have some keen terrains to use in your levels!
