In this
tutorial you will create your first working level with UnrealED. If you still have that
room from the last tutorial open, lets get rid of it and start a new level. From the
toolbar, select File/New Level. Everything is cleared, reset, and ready to go.
Now to create your first room again. Whenever you add/subtract a brush, it will use the
texture that you have selected in the texture browser. So rather than subtract and get
that ugly default texture, go to the texture browser and load SkyCity.utx (if its not
already loaded into the browser). Switch over to that package in the 2nd dropdown. Choose
a nice brick wall or something from the textures. Once you have that selected, go over to
the left toolbar and right click the Cube tool. Select Cube properties.
For the sake of this tutorial, just enter the values as I specify, as this is more a
walkthrough type of tutorial.
Make a cube with a height of 256, width of 512, and breadth of 768. I usually try to stick
to rounded numbers like these so building things will be much easier and the walls will be
on major grid lines. Like I mentioned earlier, 1 unit in UnrealED is the equivalent of 1
inch of real space. The cube you created is roughly 20 feet tall, 40 feet wide, and 60
feet long. Now, with the cube built, go ahead and subtract it. The cube should be
subtracted from the world and become valid space with the texture that you had selected.
Go to Cube Properties -
Enter the Values - Position the cube and Subtract from world - The texture you have
selected in the browser will be used
Go ahead and move your 3D view inside the room
that you created for a better perspective of what you are doing.
Your red brush remains where it was when you
subtracted. If you want you can move it out of the way, but it won't hurt anything
remaining where it is.
This room is pretty plain, so lets try adding hallways and other rooms now. |
