This is the
concept that you must understand about how UnrealED works. I explained what brushes are,
3D geomerty. I talked about the red builder brush and what it is used for. I said that it
is used to create your world by adding and subtracting.
Adding and Subtracting is how you mold your world in UnrealED.

Imagine you are carving from a big block of
wood. You start off with solid space. The way you create space to play in, or create
places that exist, you carve from the wood. In UnrealED you SUBTRACT a brush (which will
be in the form of your red brush) from the world. When you subtract the brush, it is like
carving space that the player can move in. That is how your first room is created, you
take your red brush, make it into something like a CUBE, then SUBTRACT it. The room is
created in the shape of your red brush.
Position the Red Brush - Press
the Subtract Brush from World tool - Space is created
Subtracting is like carving. So what is adding?
ADDING a brush to the world is like filling the space back up. First you have to create
the space by subtracting, then you can fill it back up with solids by adding. The
subtracted space is air, area the player can walk in. Added space is solid, you can walk
on it, you can't walk through it, and it can block you.
Position the Red Brush - Press
the Add Brush to World tool - Space is filled up
This is the concept that UnrealED uses for
constructing your level. You subtract and add to the world using brushes, or objects which
are the shape of your red brush. You choose the shape for your red brush, then you click
the add or subtract tool.
I hope this explains the concept to where you understand it. Its how UnrealED works.
